Attack of the Zombies

Helen listened to this scary story from her older sister.

On one cold, dark Halloween night, three children went trick-or-treating. There was a thick cover of fog in the air, so Jeff, May, and Oliver had to use flashlights in order to see where they were going. They were the only children in the streets trick-or-treating. Jeff said, “Maybe because it's so cold. That's why no one else is outside trick-or-treating.”

As they went trick-or-treating, there was another strange thing happening. No one seemed to be home. They went to five houses and no one answered their doors. This is when May started worrying and said, “What's going on tonight? There's no one trick-or-treating and there's no one answering the door. Maybe we should just go home.”

“No,” said Oliver, “We can't give up. We don't have any candy yet.”

At that moment, they saw some figures in the thick fog that looked like people. “Look over there May,” Jeff said, “There are people out tonight.”

As the figures got closer and they could finally see them clearly, May panicked. She screamed, “Those aren't people! They're zombies!”

The zombies were covered in blood and were beginning to surround the only children out trick-or-treating. Jeff, May, and Oliver started running away as fast as they could back to May's house. When they got there, they shut the door behind them. Five minutes later, they heard a knock. None of them opened the door. They knew who was knocking.
